Weir visit generates nearly $1.2 million for Saskatoon children's hospital
Saskatoon is over one million dollars closer to having its own children's hospital after Canadian golfer Mike Weir swung into town.
The Mike Weir Miracle Golf Drive raised $1,181,625 for the Children's Health and Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan, the foundation announced at a gala dinner Tuesday night. The money will go directly towards establishing a children's hospital in Saskatoon.
One big assist went to David Dube and Brett Wilson, who each paid $100,000 to be Weir's caddies at a future event.
Weir began a busy day in the city Tuesday by playing a round of golf at Riverside Golf and Country Club. He then went on to host a clinic at Griffiths Stadium and deliver a speech at a gala dinner
Details of the children's hospital, such as the location of a new structure, have yet to be determined by the Saskatoon Health Region, but Premier Brad Wall said to expect an announcement in the near future.
"This project remains a top priority for the new government of Saskatchewan," Wall said Monday.
Last year, the Sarnia, Ont.-born Weir raised over $500,000 for a children's charity in London, Ont.
